Bobcat Volleyball Accepts NIVC Bid

Texas State set to head to the postseason for first time since 2013, 10th time in school history

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Texas State volleyball team has received and accepted a bid to compete in the returning National Invitational Volleyball Championship, the organization announced Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats (24-9) are coming off a second-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference and an appearance in the finals of the 2017 SBC Championship. They are set to make their first postseason appointment since 2013. This will also be the 10th postseason trip in school history and the first in the NIVC. TXST did not compete during the previous iteration of the NIVC from 1989-95.

In total, 15 schools accepted automatic berths into the NIVC. The complete 32-team field will be announced Nov. 26 following the NCAA Championship Selection Show.

Other programs from Texas who also accepted automatic bids are SMU (American), North Texas (C-USA) and Stephen F. Austin (Southland).

The entire 2017 tournament will be hosted by participating schools. A team is offered an automatic berth by the NIVC when it’s the highest-finishing program in its conference’s regular-season standings and is not selected for the NCAA Championship. Should a conference’s automatic qualifier decline the NIVC invitation, then the conference forfeits its AQ spot and that berth goes into the at-large pool.

Eight participating schools will each host four schools in Rounds 1 and 2 slated for Nov. 28-30. The quarterfinals will take place Dec. 1-3. The semifinals (Dec. 4-9) and championship (6 p.m. Dec. 12) will be streamed live on WatchESPN.
