BREAKING: Withers Dismisses Three Players, Another Quits

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State head football coach Everett Withers announced that three players have been dismissed from the school’s football team and another player quit playing for the team last weekend.

“It is unfortunate that at this time I have made the decision as the Head Football Coach at Texas State University to dismiss Demun Mercer, Justin Gamble and Brice Gunter from our football team for breaking our team core values and for failure to meet expectations in other areas,” Withers said. “It is always unfortunate to have young people not meet the standards you set for a team with a new culture.  It is our mission at Texas State football to compete for championships with young people who want success in life for the next 40-50 years.  We wish Demun, Justin and Brice the best as they move on in their next situations.  We will continue to trust the path for this Texas State football team.  There will be no further discussion of this issue.”

In addition to dismissing those three players, Withers also announced that redshirt freshman Kerry Walker decided to quit playing for the team last weekend.
