Buda City Manager Takes Over As President Of Texas City Management Association

Buda City Manager Kenneth Williams took over as President of the Texas City Management Association (TCMA) for 2019-2020 on June 30, 2019.

TCMA consists of local government professionals dedicated to promoting the highest standards of governance, service, leadership, ethics, and education while embracing individual and regional diversity for the benefit of the membership and cities like Buda.

“This is an honor of a lifetime,” said Williams. “Having worked alongside previous Presidents of the organization I was able to achieve the vision to serve at the pinnacle of the profession in the greatest state in our land, the great state of Texas.”

Mr. Williams has served as city manager of Buda since 2008. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city, applies strategic direction, implements council policies, and coordinates community issues.

By the time Mr. Williams accepted the City Manager position in Buda, he had 20 years of city government experience under his belt. He started his career as a code inspector in Lufkin, Texas.   

“Local government was one of the rare opportunities to realize the vision of becoming an administrator. This started with the glorious position of a code inspector.” From a young age Mr. Williams aspired to be an administrator in city government.  

Williams worked his way up the chain in the City of Lufkin, where he served as Director of Public Works (1997-2004), as the Emergency Management Coordinator (1997-2006), and ultimately as Assistant City Manager of Administrative Services (2004-2006). Prior to coming to Buda, Mr. Williams held the City Manager position in Diboll, Texas (2006-2008).  

“When I came to interview in Buda, my wife and  I drove into town and instantly recognized that this was a place that had an excellent quality of life.”

Some major accomplishments during his tenure in Buda include implementation of the Buda Police Department, the reconstruction of the Main Street Overpass, construction of the Robert S. Light Bridge, directed the development of new comprehensive, Transportation and Downtown Plans, the construction and inauguration of the Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park, the ground breaking, construction and grand opening of the new Municipal/Library Facility, Public Safety Building, Parks Maintenance Building, and overseeing the City’s current bond projects.

During his speech at the TCMA Conference in Fort Worth, Mr. Williams thanked his wife, kids, City Council and staff for their support. “I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to serve as President of the TCMA.”

The City of Buda applauds Mr. Williams for his dedication and wish him success on his journey as the TCMA 2019-2020 President.
