City To Hold Town Hall Meetings for Flood Recovery Discussion

The City of San Marcos invites residents to participate in brainstorming and information sessions on flood recovery. The town hall style meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at Hill Country Church at 1401 Davis Lane from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 16 at Fire Station 5 at 100 Carlson Circle from 10 a.m. to noon.

 

City leaders will share the City’s progress on flood recovery since the May and October floods of 2015. The City will also seek input for residents on priorities for flood recovery.

 

One of the main topics will be the recently awarded Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funds, which are soon to be allocated to the City of San Marcos from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

 

“The City wants to ensure we have continued dialogue with the community on how these grant funds will be used for flood resiliency and to help prevent future flooding,” said City Manager Jared Miller. “HUD requires community involvement and public input on the use of the funds and these meetings are the first in a series of engagement opportunities for the community.”

In addition to providing information about the HUD program and other city grant initiatives the City will also seek input from residents on unmet needs. The City has also invited the Blanco River Regional Recovery Team, a local non-profit that’s tasked with long-term flood recovery for the area, to share about the work they’ve done since the floods and the opportunities still available to residents.

The meetings will be streamed live on the City’s website at www.sanmarcostx.gov/townhall and rebroadcast on the City’s cable channel.
