Hays County Partners With County Recycling Center For Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Accepted items include fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, drain cleaners, automotive oil, degreasers, paints, stains, fluorescent lights, cell phones, batteries, weed killers and medical sharps (such as needles).

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County and the City of San Marcos are partnering to bring a household hazardous waste drop-off at the Hays County Driftwood Solid Waste/Recycling Center, 100 Darden Hill Road (CR 162) on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There is no charge to drop off items, which should not be placed in regular trash or recycling since the chemicals and other materials can harm persons, ground and water.

Accepted items include fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, drain cleaners, automotive oil, degreasers, paints, stains, fluorescent lights, cell phones, batteries, weed killers and medical sharps (such as needles).

Hazardous household drop-off is available at the San Marcos facility every Tuesday and Friday, Noon to 3:30 p.m., Hays County residents can drop off at San Marcos Traffic Yard, 630 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos.

The Driftwood facility accepts furniture, bulky items, tires and household trash for a fee Tuesday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility is currently unable to accept hazardous waste on a regular basis. Please call 512-858-9515 for more information.
