Central Texas Medical Center Earns Bariatric Surgery Certification From The Joint Commission

SAN MARCOS, TEXASCentral Texas Medical Center (CTMC) announced today that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Bariatric Surgery Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

“It is always an honor to be recognized by The Joint Commission,” said CTMC President/CEO Anthony Stahl. “This Bariatric Surgery Certification celebrates our commitment to our patients and their total wellness. I am very proud of everyone, whose hard work made this possible.”

CTMC underwent a rigorous on-site review this month. The Joint Commission evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards, as well as with bariatric surgery-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures were also assessed.

The Joint Commission’s Bariatric Surgery Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
  • Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
  • An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

“Central Texas Medical Center has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients receiving bariatric care,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “We commend CTMC for becoming a leader in bariatric surgery, potentially providing a higher standard of service for bariatric patients in its community.”
