CenturyLink Foundation Gives $13,000 To SM Schools For Innovative Technology Projects

CenturyLink Foundation Gives $13,000 To SM Schools For Innovative Technology Projects
CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) today announced the winners of the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant program. The program, which has been offered since 2008, awards grants to schools in CenturyLink’s local service areas on behalf of teachers who have developed specific plans to implement innovative technology in their classrooms.
“We were excited to see the innovation and creativity in this year’s grants applications,” said Karen Crabtree, CenturyLink Operations Vice President. “It’s encouraging to see teachers’ enthusiasm for bringing new learning tools and techniques into their classrooms, and we are pleased to be able to help expose students to more educational technology in their daily school lives.”
Across the country, more than 1,000 grant applications were received. In Texas, six winning schools were selected by a review committee comprised of community members and a CenturyLink representative. The winning teachers’ schools received grants to be used to purchase technology to benefit students in the classroom:
Crockett Elementary School was awarded $4,991.00 for a project titled: If I Can Hear It, I Can Learn It. The grant will allow dyslexic students to use iPad mini computers for reading in classrooms. Teacher Debbie McCullough submitted the project.
Mendez Elementary School was awarded $5,000.00 for a project titled: Teaching with Tablets: Opening Up a World of Knowledge. The grant will purchase computer tablets in order for students to access the Internet and complete research projects. Teacher Yvonne Rodriguez submitted the project.
Owen Goodnight Middle School was awarded $3,540.00 for a project titled: Students Teaching Students: We Learn, We Know, We Teach. The grant provides an innovative opportunity to provide students with a tool for cognitive development by communicating knowledge with the use of a teleprompter and camcorder. Teacher Martin Thomen submitted the project.
