Following their Governance Session on Nov. 9, City Council and City Manager Bert Lumbreras are announcing upcoming adjustments to streamline City Council meeting formats and create productive work sessions.

Upcoming City Council Meeting format changes beginning December 5 include:

  • Addition of Work Sessions at 3 p.m. prior to the Council Meeting;

  • Scheduling of Executive Session at 5 p.m. with a hard stop time of 6 p.m.;

  • Regular Meeting beginning at 6 p.m. with Call to Order, Invocation & Pledges, Citizen Comment, Consent Items, Public Hearings and Regular Meeting Items;

  • Proclamations being held at 4 p.m. on the Monday prior to the Council Meeting beginning on Mon., Dec. 18;

  • Packet meetings ending as of Fri., Nov. 17.

“The addition of the work session is a useful tool to allow staff the opportunity to present key issues to Council prior to the item appearing on an agenda for a policy decision,” said City Manager Bert Lumbreras.  “This new format will not only provide for better communication of complex issues, but also result in more robust and effective utilization of time for Council, staff and the public.”

Work sessions will be open to the public and posted as part of the Council meeting agenda.  The Mayor and City Manager will set future Council agendas with Council members requesting items to be placed on a Work Session, Regular Meeting or Workshop.

Adjustments to the City Council meeting format will begin with the Dec. 5 meeting to include the Work Session beginning at 3 p.m. in City Hall, 630 E Hopkins St.  No proclamations will be held prior to the Dec.5 meeting but will resume on Mon., Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. in City Council Chambers.

City Council Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.  For additional information, call the City Clerk’s Office at 512.393.8090.
