City Of Buda Hires First Main Street Manager

“Our historic downtown is something to appreciate and I hope to bring a new audience and appreciation for Historic Old Town Buda,” said Gillespie.

BUDA, TX – The City of Buda is pleased to announce the hiring of our first Main Street Manager.

Maggie Gillespie comes to us from the City of San Marcos where she served as their Main Street Program Coordinator.

Buda was recently designated a 2017 official “Texas Main Street” city by the Texas Historical Commission.

Gillespie will lead the City’s efforts in the preservation and revitalization of historic downtown Buda. 

“I am most excited about getting to meet all of the downtown businesses and property owners,” said Gillespie. “Old Town Buda has so much charm and I get to tell the world about it. The best part is knowing that everyone that is involved has the same passion for downtown and small businesses as I do.”

“Hiring a Main Street Manager is an important, critical step as Buda joins the Texas Main Street Program,” said Assistant City Manager Chance Sparks. “Together with the soon-to-be-appointed Main Street Advisory Board, Ms. Gillespie will help us build a framework to positively influence and impact the economic health and preservation of historic downtown Buda-based in the Main Street Program’s Four Point Approach to organization, promotion, design and economic vitality. Her passion, interest and enthusiasm for assisting downtowns in revitalization will help focus energy and efforts to continue to make downtown Buda the economic, social and cultural center of the community.”

“I would like to congratulate the City of Buda, the Downtown Merchants Group and the community for all the work they have done to get Buda designated as a Main Street City,” said Gillespie. “We now have access to grants and the framework to build a very successful program. The Main Street Program focuses on a 4-point approach to guide us and has been successful in revitalizing main streets across the state. I plan to utilize this approach to support Downtown Buda.”

Gillespie got her start as an Office Administrator with the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce and has held positions with Hays Consolidated Independent School District and Texas State University.   

 “We are very excited to have Maggie join our team! Maggie brings with her strong experience from the San Marcos Main Street Program as their Main Street Coordinator, along with past experience with chambers of commerce and collegiate community relations,” said Sparks.

“Our historic downtown is something to appreciate and I hope to bring a new audience and appreciation for Historic Old Town Buda,” said Gillespie. “This is an important step in Buda’s history and I am excited to be a part of it. “

Gillespie holds a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences from Texas State University. She will start with the City of Buda on Jan. 24, 2017.
