City Of Kyle’s Road Construction Detours, Closures To Watch Out For This Week

Staff Report

Last week Kyle started the long-awaited reconstruction of Lehman Road. Kyle residents should be prepared for detours during the roadwork.

Underground utilities will kickoff this reconstruction project, with an estimated project wrap up the timeline of 24 months and the closed portion of FM 150 to Masonwood to last several months.

However, inclement weather and other issues can affect the anticipated schedule throughout the entire project.

Motorists should be prepared for detours and closures during the construction period. The contractor is required to display signage in advance of traffic changes, lane shifts, detours and closures.

The Hays CISD transportation department has been informed of the detours and is planning bus routes accordingly. Student drivers who use Lehman Rd. from FM 150 should use the detours listed below.

Burleson St.: Began Construction September 2018 (approximately 24-month project)

The contractor currently has the following portion of Burleson closed: from Center to Tenorio St. (by St. Anthony’s Church). Side streets are passable for local traffic only. Detour signs are posted. Detours go through the Silverado and Spring Branch neighborhoods.

The section between Lockhart and Live Oak is anticipated to open in mid-late July; weather delays are a possibility. Watch this video update.

Some minor disruptions to traffic in the coming weeks may be needed as we still have some pending work (illumination, landscaping). We will use social media to communicate any issue/temporary closures if needed.

Drainage work at St. Anthony’s is ongoing.

This is a planned major reconstruction of the road and part of the 2013 road bond approved by Kyle voters. The work involves moving utilities and adding turn lanes.

**Note: as work moves north toward Marketplace, the contractor will set new detours. We will work to keep everyone updated.**

Lehman Rd.: Began Construction February 2019 (approximately 24-month project) —

The Lehman Rd. closure now extends from FM 150 to just south of Hiver St.

Remember, you can still easily get to the businesses at Lehman & FM 150 by entering from the 150 side of the plaza.

Our contractor believes they can complete the road reconstruction from FM 150 to just S. of Hiver Street by January 2020*. As the work progresses, the city will provide an update of new closures and section openings.

*Weather and other issues can impact or delay the start date for new closures, and for any work on the overall project.

Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150. The staff at PAWS was notified as some of the work and closures may affect their parking lot and access, as well as where volunteers can walk the dogs.

The contractor continues to work on the City’s utility work between Lake Kyle and Public Works. They placed the 48″ casing for new 30″ wastewater line, though no work has been completed on the City’s 12″ reclaim water line that is being placed in the same area.

The Lake Kyle excavation is complete and the contractor has started construction on the low water structure.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As of May 31, the city and contractor are in agreement that the Pie in the Sky Festival over Labor Day weekend will take place at Lake Kyle as expected.

Also, the contractor is working in front of the Public Works facility on FM 150. The work involves lowering the stormwater grate, moving to place the water barriers, and excavating. The staff at PAWS has been notified as some of the work and closures may affect their parking lot and access.

Rebel Rd. / RM 150 W.:

NOTE: TxDOT will soon be installing stop signs on Rebel Rd. / RM 150 West at Silverado, creating a three-way stop at that intersection. TxDOT will put out roadside signs warning drivers about the upcoming change. We encourage all who use that section of the road to be aware of the stop sign changes. As soon as we have the dates, we will update this information.

Kyle Crossing Project.:

This will begin on 6/17/2019. The work will be done in several phases. Currently, the road is closed for southbound traffic (on the section behind EVO) but it will remain open for northbound one-way traffic between Kohler’s crossing and Dry Hole Road (just southeast of Vista Ridge).

Between Dry Hole road east to I-35, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project. This project is expected to last approximately 180 calendar days, though weather and other issues may delay that schedule. (See map attached to the bottom of this page.) Watch this short video on the project.

In first phase, there will be two-way traffic all the way. After the first phase, the road will be closed for southbound traffic but it will remain open for northbound one-way traffic between Kohler’s crossing and Dry Hole Road.

Between Dry Hole road to east, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project. This project is expected to last approximately 180 calendar days, though weather and other issues may delay that schedule. Please see our website with a map for more details.

City Lights Dr.:

City Lights Dr. near the I-35 access road will be closed between about 7 AM and 6 PM daily for an estimated three days beginning June 13.

This is to allow for an open trench cut tie into a wastewater manhole in the center turn lane for Caliber Collision. The turn lane and the eastbound lanes will be closed. The westbound lane will be open and flaggers will direct drivers.
