City To Dedicate Newest Mural Thursday

The City of San Marcos will dedicate the newest mural project on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m.

The mural, titled “The Electric Juice Progression,” was designed and created by artists Chase Hayles and Kelsey Huckaby.

Located at 810 N. LBJ Drive, on a retaining wall in front of Vintage Pads apartment complex, the mural brings life and color to a once drab area that was subject to many instances of illegal graffiti.

This is the latest project for the San Marcos Mural Arts Program.  It is a joint project of the City, the artists, and San Marcos Green Investors, LLC.

The San Marcos Mural Arts Program is a city project designed to deter graffiti, beautify all areas of town, and support the local arts community.  Funds for the program are allocated from the City’s hotel occupancy tax collections.

Mural Applications are accepted year-round and are judged on the following criteria:

  • Artistic excellence
  • Intricacy of design
  • Appropriateness of the mural design and location
  • Visibility
  • “Wow” factor
  • Ability to complete the project
  • Impact on the community
  • Impact of Mural Arts Grant funds on the project
  • Ability to promote tourism
