San Marcos Discovery Center To Hold Plant Liquidation Sale

Discovery Center staff and volunteers will be available to help you pick the perfect plant to bring butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden. 

Native plants use less water and can handle our hot Texas summers better than non-native species. Discovery Center staff and volunteers will be available to help you pick the perfect plant to bring butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden.

The San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive on Nov. 18 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for a great selection of native plants for your garden. This will be their final sale until April 14 2018, and all plants will be sold at a discounted rate.

Admission is free for all ages. All proceeds from the sale benefits the Discovery Center’s Native Plant Program.

The San Marcos Discovery Center (SMDC) serves as an interpretive center for the Blanco and San Marcos rivers, parks, and associated trails and provides offices for Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and Youth Services staff.

Specializing in native and adapted plant production and promotion, the SMDC hosts bi-annual plant sales and features certified wildlife habitat displays and demonstration garden beds to increase public education and awareness of native landscapes.

Themed gardens include a certified monarch waystation butterfly garden, cacti, grass, shade, spiral/seedball, vegetable, and herb gardens.

SMDC offers public exhibits as well as a pet fish drop off pond. Many volunteer opportunities are available such as garden maintenance (Master Gardener/Naturalists approved credit hours), HCP river activities, and youth programs. The SMDC provides signage and maps to educate the public and hosts master composter courses, youth camps, and guided tree, bird, and bug walks.
