City To Preview Overlay Work At Neighborhood Meeting

The City’s Overlay Program uses a combination of preservation treatments including asphalt overlay, slurry seals, crack sealing, and base repairs to extend the life of roadways.

The Transportation Division of the Public Services Department will host a neighborhood meeting on Monday, May 22 from 6 – 7: 30 p.m. at the Crocket Elementary School cafeteria, 1300 Girard Street, to discuss upcoming street overlay projects, traffic detours, and schedule of work related to the City’s 2017 Overlay Program.

The City’s Street Overlay program is a $1.6 million annual street maintenance program that includes rating, repairing, and resurfacing existing roadways.

The City’s Overlay Program uses a combination of preservation treatments including asphalt overlay, slurry seals, crack sealing, and base repairs to extend the life of roadways.

Annual preventative maintenance can extend the life of the pavement by 5 – 10 years and can delay expensive reconstruction costs.

Resurfacing projects scheduled this summer include:

  • Southwest Hills Neighborhood
  • Robbie Lane
  • Broadway Street
  • Feltner Alley

Projects completed earlier this year include:

  • Jackson Lane
  • Warden Lane
  • Zunker Street
  • Springtown Way
  • Allen Street
