City of Kyle finishes up 2021 Great Texas River Cleanup

KYLE, TEXAS  The City of Kyle participated in the 2021 Great Texas River Cleanup on Saturday, March 6.

Though this year’s cleanup was different than years before due to COVID-19, 88 volunteers including Councilmembers helped collect trash and recycling that could have otherwise washed into local waterways.

Volunteer groups made up of 10 or less were able to choose which area they would like to clean up upon signup and checked in at their group’s designated sites across the City the morning of the cleanup.

In total, approximately 1,675 pounds of trash — including 11 passenger tires, one commercial tire, and a TV — and 660 pounds of recycling were collected by volunteers.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to join in an event that helps to bring awareness to and volunteers to help beautify the river, creeks, and riverbanks,” Stormwater Management Plan Administrator Kathy Roecker said. “We want to thank the residents and Council members, Ellison and Rizo, for coming out and helping us clear areas that could have otherwise become problem areas during heavy rains.”
