Commissioners Court Proclaims 4-H Week In Hays County

Hays County Courthouse, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed the week of October 2-8 as National 4-H Week in Hays County to honor the Youth Development Program, which has existed in Texas for 108 years to provide innovate, experience-based learning for young people.

Texas AgriLife Extension Agent Jason Mangold thanked the Court for its support of all types of 4-H programs and noted that there are more than 500 4-H participants in Hays County helped by nearly 300 adult volunteers.

Area 4-H youth leaders joined Mangold in thanking the Court, describing how 4-H has impacted their lives and helped them grow through its varied programs. Each year, 4-H clubs nationwide select a charity to assist, and this year members are                                                                                                  collecting school supplies for victims of                                                                                               the Louisiana flooding.

According to the proclamation, more than 600,000 young people nationwide participate in one or more 4-H programs, which seek to educate the “whole child, including head, heart, hands and health.”
