Clinical Depression Is A Serious Issue

Leading research indicates that clinical depression is more popular than ever before, especially in adolescents.

While social media hasn’t been around very long, the usage of platforms like Facebook and Instagram have proliferated throughout the Western world to the point where nine out of 10 Americans regularly access at least one social media site.

Social media is far from being the only cause of clinical depression, though it certainly is a leading one.

Another leading cause of depression is related to the physical environments people live in

Neighborhoods that are closer to industrial activity like manufacturing, plants that constantly billow smoke en masse, and 18-wheeled tractor trailers frequently coming and going – among countless other manifestations of industry and manufacturing – consistently feature more depressed people than their counterparts that aren’t as close to plants, distribution centers, and other facilities and vehicles related to industrial processes.

Further, the aforementioned neighborhoods are more likely to average lower incomes than neighborhoods that aren’t so close to factories and the like. This phenomenon is explained by real estate developers that want to make sure the suburbs, subdivisions, and other residential areas they create can fetch as much money as possible after they’re built.

Nobody wants to live next to a factory – maybe a few people might want to if they work at that facility – which explains why homes farther away from the industrial activity than their not-so-sought-after residential counterparts fetch more when sold on the market.

Government officials typically keep high-dollar houses and tracts of land that developers are more likely to seek out than other spots close to their regulatory stamps of approval; in other words, whenever real estate developers come knocking on a local government’s door, they’re much more likely to receive approval to build planned real estate developments slated to be sold at relatively high marks.

This is because of the omnipresent fact that elected officials want to be reelected and bring nicer houses, people with higher incomes, and better jobs to their respective areas of service – these three points can readily be boasted in advertisements.

Lastly, people who live in unsafe neighborhoods or areas in which some or most residents frequently cross the boundaries of neighborhood norms are at higher risks of developing depression or worsening their already-existing mental health disorders and diseases.

More cases of “neighborhood disorder,” as sociologists, psychologists, and other relevant experts refer to it, have been associated with neighborhoods that are in relatively close proximities to manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and other large industrial industry participants.

People with serious cases of clinical depression aren’t alone

Far too many people who suffer from clinical depression and other mental health issues don’t actively seek treatment for their issues. Further, some cases of depression are particularly resistant to standard treatments like antidepressants, exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy, and using special lights – this method of treatment is used frequently for people suffering from seasonal affective disorder – which causes sufferers to give up hope and stop trying to resolve or even mitigate their symptoms.
