Youth Activity Scholarships Available For San Marcos Rec Programs

The scholarship program is paid with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that are given to the City by the U.S. Department of Public Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for recreation program scholarships for low to moderate income San Marcos children.

The scholarship pays 50% of the registration fees, or up to $150 per child, for any of the programs offered by the City including team sports, youth membership to the Activity Center, Summer Fun, and a number of other programs and camps. Children must live inside the city limits of San Marcos to be eligible for the scholarship.

The scholarship program is paid with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that are given to the City by the U.S. Department of Public Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Scholarships are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Eligibility does not guarantee assistance, and assistance does not guarantee program registration. Participants must pay one-half of all program fees.

Registration and payment for programs must occur on or before Sept. 30, 2018 to qualify.

The CDBG program requires the City to show that the child receiving a Youth Activity Scholarship is from a family with a yearly income that is considered low to moderate, based on the number of family members who live in the child’s home. The City will accept the following evidence that the child is eligible for the scholarship:

  1. Proof that the child has been approved by his or her school to receive a free or reduced lunch; or
  2. Proof that the child lives in housing provided through the San Marcos Housing Authority; or
  3. Proof that the child lives in a household that participates in the WIC program.

Applications may be completed in person at 401 E. Hopkins and may be accessed online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/youthactivity.
