Local Political Tug a War to Start Over San Marcos City Council Seats 5 And 6

The filing period for candidates interested in running for San Marcos City Council in the Nov. 3, 2015 general election officially begins on Saturday, July 25 and will continue until Monday, August 24.
 
The City Clerk’s office is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed during the lunch hour from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.) to accept candidate filings.  Anyone interested in filing may pick up a candidate packet at the City Clerk’s office, City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.
 
Up for election are positions of City Council Place 5 and City Council Place 6. Incumbents are Council Member Ryan Thomason, Place 5 and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Shane Scott, Place 6.
 
Under the City Charter, the term for city council seats is three years.  All seven members serve in at-large positions.
 
The City Council is expected to formally call the election at its August 18 meeting. The City election is held in conjunction with the county, state and federal general elections.
