Texas Tax Free Preparedness Weekend Returns

The City of San Marcos Office of Emergency Management is encouraging residents to take advantage of Texas Tax-Free Preparedness Weekend to build a kit and plan for potential natural disasters or other emergencies.

This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 24.

The Texas Comptroller has a list qualifying items that includes generators, emergency ladders, batteries, flashlights, candles, fire extinguishers, coolers, first aid kits, cell phone chargers, weather radios and other items that should be included in an emergency kit.

“San Marcos residents are aware of the need to prepare for floods, so some residents already have an emergency supply kit, but this is a great opportunity to refresh those or add items for non-weather related emergencies like fires or power outages,” said City of San Marcos Interim Emergency Management Coordinator Gib Watt.

There is no limit on the number of qualifying items Texas residents can purchase through the program.

The list of qualifying items and further information about the program is available on the Texas Comptroller website.
