Governor Abbott Extends The Suspension Of Hotel And Motel Taxes During #Harvey Clean-Up
On Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott extended the dates of his original proclamation suspending the collection of State and Local Hotel Occupancy Taxes for those affected by #Harvey, relief workers and the clean-up process.
On Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott extended the dates of his original proclamation suspending the collection of State and Local Hotel Occupancy Taxes for those affected by Hurricane #Harvey and relief workers for the clean-up process.
The Governor signed the original proclamation for the suspension of the collection of state or local hotel or motel occupancy taxes from the victims of Hurricane Harvey or personnel participating in relief operations, for a period of 14 days, beginning August 23, 2017, and ending September 6, 2017.
The extension changed the ending date to Friday, September 22, 2017.
The tax waiver applies to:
- persons with a home address in one of the counties the Governor declared a disaster area; and relief workers dispatched to one of those counties.
Evacuees and relief workers should complete a Form 12-302, Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Certificate. To certify they qualify, persons should mark the “Exempt by Other Federal or State Law” box and write “Hurricane Harvey” anywhere on the form.
