Goforth Road Detour To Begin January 4

Extensive improvements to Goforth Road between Bebee Lane and High Road will require motorists traveling that route to and from I-35 to detour around a dangerous construction site beginning January 4. The 16-month-long project will realign Goforth Road, making it straighter, and will result in an improved spillway from Plum Creek Watershed Site 6 to a retention pond. The new permanent spillway and concrete auxiliary spillway and drain structure will carry water underneath Goforth Road, reducing the possibility of roadway flooding and road damage. The road is expected to reopen in April of 2017.

Traffic traveling west toward I-35 will be detoured from the east side of the road closure, turning left on Shady Oaks Drive, right onto Cotton Gin Road and right again back onto Goforth Road, which then turns left onto Bebee Road. Traveling east away from I-35, traffic will turn left to go north of Goforth Road as in the past, but to continue east will turn right on Goforth Road at Bebee Lane, left on Cotton Gin Road, left on Shady Oaks and right onto High Road. The detour is expected to take motorists an additional 5-6 minutes to complete.

Access to streets north and south of Goforth and businesses and the athletic field on Bebee will have access during the construction.
