Buda Police implement new procedures as part of TPCA Accreditation effort

Staff Reports

BUDA – As part of an effort to gain recognition by the Texas Police Chief’s Association (TPCA), the Buda Police Department wrote and adopted new procedures, implementing “best practices” that were recently accepted during a Buda City Council meeting.

Buda Police Chief Bo Kidd said the undertaking of reviewing and rewriting the department’s policies and procedures was not a sudden occurrence. “I’ve been thinking about seeking TPCA recognition for quite some time, so it has been one of my goals. This has been about a three-year-long process,” he said.

The new operations manual has more than 160 best practice recommendations, which cover both external and internal investigations, that are required for the department to gain TPCA’s accreditation. Other steps will be implemented, which will complement the new operations manual.

Accreditation processes have become a requirement for police departments around the country. Chief Kidd said he is optimistic that the Buda Police Department could become the first in Hays County to obtain such accreditation.
