Arts, Culture, Heritage Remain Vital To Price Center Operations

San Marcos, TX – Following a year of early record successes in art shows and community cultural celebrations, the Price Center’s Arts Committee has set an aggressive calendar of events and activities for 2021, including the return of an all women’s art show and more interactive collaborative community art projects.

An effort to include more cultural and heritage displays and observations has also already begun.

“It’s been an extremely challenging and very rewarding year,” said Joan Nagel, Price Center Arts Committee Chair. “From our early success in the beginning of the year with the Women’s show to the COVID closure, to the unexpected opportunity to renovate our primary gallery spaces, to a triumphant re-opening and year-end show, it’s been a year of highs, lows, and highs again,” she added.

Nagel and other members of the Arts Committee have begun mapping out a schedule of new gallery shows for 2021 that will begin with the return of an all women’s art show titled “From Challenge Comes Change” for Feburary and March.

A focus on Earth Day for April and May titled “Restore our Earth” will follow.

The San Marcos Art League is planning an invitational show for its members in June and July. And, new this year, the Committee is asking individuals and groups within the arts community to propose shows for the second half of the year.

Committee members are also talking with individuals and groups responsible for the Mardi Gras, Heritage, Hispanic, and Indigenous Cultural activities to consider partnerships and other visual displays throughout the year.

Community art shows are made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Admission is free and open to all daily.

Proceeds from show application fees and commissions from any sales benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
