Gary Job Corps Celebrates MLK Day With Community In MLK March
Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

San Marcos Martin Luther King Jr 2019 March
Gary Job Corps students and staff participated with 100’s of local citizens and elected officials in the San Marcos MLK Jr. 2019 March around the Hays County Court House and ending at the Dunbar Center.
For over 25 years the students and staff from the Gary Job Corps Center have marched in local parades in San Marcos, San Antonio, and Austin.
Gary Job Corps’ January Employee of the Month
Ms. Rakeitha Garner, Welding Instructor in the (CTT) Career Technical Training Department was selected as the Gary Job Corps January Employee of the Month.
Rakeitha is a survivor of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas and through friends and helping handing was able to secure a position as a Welding Instructor at the Gary Center.
Melissa Valdez, CTT Construction & Manufacturing Manager, stated that she “demonstrates LEGACY every day with all trainees and staff. Ms. Garner is a positive role model who coaches others to do their best. Every trainee in the welding trade knows Ms. Garner because she develops relationships, and trainees trust and respect her. Her personality is authentic and contagious, which is reflected in her character.”
Melissa further stated, “trainees easily gravitate to her, because of her positive attitude and know she genuinely cares. She takes initiative and collaborates with other areas to assist with retention. She takes pride in what she does and always has the trainee’s best interest in mind, to ensure they are successful in the program and in life. Ms. Garner is a valuable asset to the CTT Department and ResCare.”
Ms. Garner added, “Working with young adults is challenging and rewarding. To the students I say the challenge is worth it, you have to encourage yourself for your future”.
