Bobcats Participating In Soccer United Against Hunger

SAN MARCOS, Texas — With the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, the Texas State soccer program is helping give back to those in need by participating in the food drive Soccer United Against Hunger that runs June 1-30.

Before the pandemic, 41 million Americans were relying on Food Banks for help including 11 million children.

Over 30 million more have now lost their jobs in the last month and Food Banks are now seeing lines of up to 10,000 cars.

The Bobcats and the over 500 Division I men’s and women’s soccer programs are uniting across America to take action against hunger.

Leading the effort for Texas State is rising senior Sarah Everett. Joining her and in charge of groups at each donation site are Addison Gaetano, Sydney Kammer, Renny Moore, Hannah Solano and Avery Thies.

“Participating in this food drive has been an amazing experience because it allows us to stay connected as a team while giving back to our communities when they need it most,” said Everett. “Soccer United Against Hunger shows the nation that soccer is more than just a sport. Right now, it is a way for us to united and make a difference.”

The Bobcats are working with six organizations with three in Austin (Caritas of Austin, Palm Square Community Center and Reveal Resource Center), two in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (Community Storehouse and GRACE Grapevine) and one in Houston (Houston Food Bank).

To donate in person, drop off dates for the Soccer United Against Hunger program will be June 16 and 30 at all locations with an exception being the Reveal Resource Center that has to drop off dates of June 15, 22, and 29 at 10 a.m.
