George, Krenek, Porter Earn SBC Weekly Awards

NEW ORLEANS – Texas State’s Aaron George, Kaylee Krenek and De’Marcus Porter ensured it would be a Bobcat trio taking home the Sun Belt Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week award this week.

George, a junior, earned the Men’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week honor after posting the country’s second-best long jump this past weekend at the Texas State Bobcat Challenge. George’s leap of 7.99 meters (26-2.75) was a new career best and tops the Sun Belt Conference this season. In addition to the long jump, he also showed his track prowess helping to lead the Bobcats to the top spot in the SBC and a school-record-breaking time in the 4×100-meter relay (40.05) while also running a career best in the 200-meter dash (21.29).

Porter ran career-best times in three separate races this weekend. He clocked the fastest time in the SBC in the 200-meter dash at 21-flat before leading the men’s 4×100-meter relay team to the top spot in the SBC, a meet victory, and a school-record 40.05. Finally, he competed in a third event, running the 100-meter dash in 10.51 to earn the Men’s Track Student-Athlete of the Week honor.

All the fun did not just go the men’s team though as Krenek, a freshman, ran the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 13.64, and also ran the 100-meter dash in 12.10. Like Porter, Krenek ran three races as well, participating on the 4×100-meter relay team that won the meet and took the top spot in the Sun Belt with a time of 45.04. She was the Women’s Track Student-Athlete of the Week.

After an outstanding weekend for the trio along with the rest of the team, the Bobcats are preparing for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in Lafayette, La., to be held on May 13-15.
