H-E-B President Takes Helm At SAEDF

SAN ANTONIO  – The San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF) announced Craig Boyan, President of H-E-B, is the new chairman of the SAEDF Executive Committee.

Boyan previously served as Vice-Chair and assumed the role upon completion of David McGee’s two-year term. McGee is President and CEO of Amegy Bank, Central Texas, and will remain on the committee as Immediate Past Chair.

SAEDF continues to attract a diverse and dynamic set of leaders to serve on its Executive Committee.

The 20-member governing body represents the breadth and depth of community leaders who directly influence the region’s economic and workforce development strategy.

“David McGee successfully led SAEDF through a fast-paced transformation. His leadership set us up for continued success and I’m grateful to follow him into this role,” said Boyan. “SAEDF exists to make sure our region grows strongly and grows the right way, and that every person has a chance to prosper. This work is incredibly important and requires the passion, experience, and perspective of people like the leaders serving on the Executive Committee today. I’m humbled to serve alongside them.”

Four new private sector leaders joined the committee in 2020, including Randy Smith, CEO of Weston Urban; Rolando Pablos, business development consultant and former Texas Secretary of State; Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, President of Texas A&M University-San Antonio; and Michael Lynd, Jr., CEO of Kairoi Residential.

Randy Smith will serve as SAEDF’s Vice Chair in 2020. Randy teamed with Graham Weston to form Weston Urban in 2012 and serves as the development firm’s CEO.

The former Vice President of Real Estate at Rackspace, Smith led the cloud computing company’s global portfolio from 2007 to 2011.

He is passionate about building a city that San Antonio’s children will choose to call home—which led directly to Smith’s commitment to the future of SAEDF.

Rolando Pablos has spent his career bringing business and politics together.

The former Texas Secretary of State and current business development consultant brings a wealth of experience and perspective to the SAEDF Executive Committee.

Pablos will also serve as Chairman of the SAEDF International Advisory Council, leading the strategic direction of our region’s international business development activity.

Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson has served as the president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio since 2015 – where she has led the institution’s comprehensive expansion into a four-year university focused on first generation students and underserved populations.

Approaching education, community engagement and workforce development with a commitment to equity and inclusivity is at the center of her leadership philosophy.

A&M-San Antonio, which entered its second decade as a stand-alone institution in 2020, holds the distinction of being a Hispanic-Serving Institution and is Military Embracing™.

Michael Lynd, Jr. is CEO of Kairoi Residential and one of the community’s fiercest advocates.

When SAEDF began its regional strategic planning efforts in 2019, Lynd led a group of stakeholders to the table who lent their time and expertise to the multi-sector process.

He wanted to bring new thinking and energy to the strategy as well as a deeper connection to the business community. He will continue to drive the momentum forward in his role on the SAEDF Executive Committee.

“We’ve continued to elevate our game as a region, and our organization has to match that level of performance,” said SAEDF President & CEO, Jenna Saucedo-Herrera. “We are energized by the leaders taking on the challenging work ahead—it’s how we’ll take our evolved strategy from plan to action.”

In addition, new appointments to the SAEDF Executive Committee include chamber board representatives: Immediate Past Chair of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber, John Agather; and Immediate Past Chair of the North San Chamber of Commerce, Chris Monroe.
