Hays CISD Campus To Implement 100% Virtual Instruction For 14 Days

The Hays County Local Health Department notified Hays CISD Wednesday that the individual in the county who tested positive for the UK variant of COVID-19 is a student at Dahlstrom Middle School who was asymptomatic.

The UK variant is considered more contagious and may spread faster than other variants of the virus.

As a precaution and in consultation with local health authorities, Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright has decided to place Dahlstrom Middle School on 100% virtual instruction for the next 14 days, including an early dismissal on Wednesday.

In-person learners will not return to campus until Thursday, February 25, 2021.

“This will allow us time to conduct our contact tracing, to thoroughly sanitize and disinfect the campus, and to allow the virus incubation period to pass,” said Dr. Wright. “I know that learning this news may be concerning for our parents, students, and employees. I want to assure our school district family and our community that we have a strong team in place, both at the district and in the county, that continues to work diligently to keep us safe and to try to stay one step ahead of the spread of this virus.”

“Knowing that the UK variant has arrived is an unequivocal reminder that we have to remain vigilant with the tools we have at our disposal – masks, spatial distancing, handwashing, and not gathering in groups,” Dr. Wright continued.
