Update: Hays County Local Health Department, Live Oak Health Partners Community Clinic Host Back To School Health Fair

It’s that time of year again. Are you prepared for the new school year?

Update: The fun events planned for today, Monday, Aug. 7, had to be canceled due to rain (yay, rain, but bad timing). There’s no room in the clinic to move them indoors. But, vaccinations will still be given August 7-11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the clinic, 401 Broadway, San Marcos!

In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month, the Hays County Local Health Department is sponsoring a fun-filled back-to-school health fair Monday, August 7 at Anita Reyes Park, 401 Broadway, San Marcos, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To help take away the needle’s sting, children will have an opportunity to have their photo taken on a fire truck, ambulance, or SWAT vehicle. Any child or adult who gets immunized will be eligible for free snow cones and popcorn throughout the day, and there will be prizes for some lucky, vaccinated children. Health information booths will help answer fair-goers’ questions and provide guidance.

Kids will have the chance to meet some of their favorite PBS Characters and do some hands-on activities for children. Community Action of San Marcos will have a book mobile at the event, offering free books for vaccinated children. Also participating are the Texas Department of Family Protective Services, United Way of Hays County, KLRU, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Cenikor, San Marcos Parks and Recreation, and ImmTrac, the Texas Immunization Registry.

The event will include free food, free games, free prizes and information to get your young child ready for school. The health fair will be held at Anita Reyes Park, next to the Health Clinic, 401-A Broadway, San Marcos, Texas
