Love Inspired Art Show On Display Throughout February At Price Center

Opportunities to express oneself creatively at the Center abound through monthly porcelain painting, quilting and one-off art workshops.

Expand your mind and sense of all things heart-related through a visually engaging new community art show from more than two dozen area artists featuring nearly 70 original creations — all centered around love. 

The show, which is made possible in part by a San Marcos Arts Commission grant, is the first one of the new year at the Price Center and includes a wide range of images and themes. The works are presented in traditional oils, acrylics, and mixed media, as well as photography and illustration, quilting and other textiles, ceramics and assemblage. The show is free, open to all, and on display daily throughout February in the Center’s Tea Room, Elevator Lobby and Stairwell Gallery.

“Many of the pieces in the show have amazing back stories,” said Clay DeStefano, excutive director. “From a 28-year journey of individually crafted Valentines, to a piece created for a critically ill newborn with heart disease, to an ancient ‘Miss Lonely Heart’, there’s powerful imagery and incredible expressions of love in this unique show.”

Area artists who contributed to the show are: Margaret Adie, Kim Anderson, Norman Bean, Bee Friends, Ronnie Borden,   Carina Boston Pinales, Karen Cross, Clay DeStefano, Carroll Dolezal, Martha Gibson, Norma Gonzalez-Hillan, Natalie Gorman, Irma Gross, Veronique Hahn, Linda Kelsey-Jones, Mark Lamdin, Lisa McPike-Smith, Trisha McWaters, Karen Meador, Diana Popham, River Valley Porcelain Arts Club, Jennifer Rosas , Judy Row, Gav Sears, Cathy Sparks, Christine Terrell, and Dan Williams. Several of the artists plan to be present at the Artists’ Reception, which will be held during the February Third Thurday Walkabout on Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m.

Many of the works on display are available for purchase and a portion of proceeds benefit the Price Center, a non-profit community center operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association. More new art is also on display in the new permanent SMCISD Visual Arts K-12 rotating show that hangs in the Center’s historic 1893 Room.

One-off musical performances, seasonal theatrical productions and movie showings offer more chances to enjoy the arts while meeting friends and neighbors.
