Crockett Elementary hosted their annual Science Fair & Expo on Friday, March 3, 2017, in several locations throughout the campus.

SMHS students demonstrated robotics to students at Crockett Elementary.

Classes rotated throughout the exhibits and guest speakers in the gymnasium, on the bus loop, in the library, on stage, and in the science lab.

The general science fair exhibits were set up in the cafeteria for the day. Older students with exhibits were paired with a group of younger students for an explanation of their projects.

The Expo featured several stations hosted by community groups, Texas State University students, and some individuals. These were primarily in the gym, bus loop, and library.

A crowd favorite was the live animal display on the bus loop that included an American quarter-horse, and a cow and calf.

The San Marcos High School robotics class in the library also drew excited participants.

The science lab featured two outstanding guest speakers. The morning rotations heard Dr. Ivan Castro-Arellano from Texas State University, who talked about bats; he brought displays and a Power Point that he shared.

Research scientist and molecular biologist Dr. Mari Salmi (University of Texas-Austin) hosted the afternoon presentations in the science lab.
