Three Texas State Players Named All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Wednesday that Bryan London, Gabe Loyd, Jordan Mittie and Aaron Brewer have been named All-SBC Honorable Mention selections in a poll of SBC coaches and selected media members.

One of the top freshmen in the nation, London was also named to the All-Newcomer team after ranking third nationally and second in the SBC with 11.8 tackles per game. He is a redshirt freshman linebacker who also ranked second nationally and led the Sun Belt in solo tackles with 7.6 per contest after recording 18 tackles, including 10 solo stops, against Sun Belt co-champion Arkansas State in the final game of the season. London also had a career-best 19 tackles with 13 being solo stops at UL Monroe. He recorded 10 or more tackles in 10 games this season. In addition, he recorded 9.5 tackles for loss of 15 yards and forced two fumbles.

Loyd is a junior college transfer who started alongside London at linebacker and served as a team captain. He was second on the team and sixth among the Sun Belt’s leaders with 8.55 tackles per game. He also ranked fifth among league leaders with 5.1 solo tackles per contest. In addition, his two fumble recoveries ranked 26th nationally. He tallied 10 tackles in three games, including a career-best 12 stops at ULM and 11 tackles against Idaho. He opened the season with 10 tackles at Ohio. In addition, he led the Bobcats with 2.0 quarterback sacks and had 7.0 tackles for loss of 20 yards.

Another redshirt freshman on the defensive line, Mittie started all 12 games as a defensive end and nose tackle after moving from linebacker last spring. Mittie recorded 31 tackles and had 3.0 tackles for loss while playing the first nine contests as a defensive end. He also played the final three contests at nose tackle and ended the season assisting on a sack and breaking up a pass. One of his biggest plays this season was in Texas State’s season-opening game at Ohio when he forced a fumble in the final minute of play to set up a game-tying field goal at the end of regulation. Texas State went on to win the game in overtime.

As a true freshman, Aaron Brewer played in all 12 contests on the offensive line as a guard and center. He made his first start at left guard against Arkansas and made seven starts at guard before starting the final four games as a center.
