Commissioners Court Thanks Jail Staff With Proclamation Of Correctional Officers, Employees Week In Hays County

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX  – The Hays County Commissioners Court Tuesday proclaimed May 5-11 as Correctional Officers and Employees Week and thanked the Hays County employees who serve behind the scenes to keep communities safe.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler told the Court that he considers correctional officers and employees to be some of the hardest-working, most dedicated workers in Hays County – and possibly the country – who spend 12-hour shifts behind locked doors taking care of the needs of some of the most violent, career criminals.

The sheriff also praised jail leadership, including 28-year Sheriff’s Office veteran Capt. Julie Villalpando, who oversees the Hays County jail.

“Our employees serve as mentors, counselors, and disciplinarians,” Villalpando said, thanking the Court members for recognizing the work that the jail staff does.

The proclamation also notes correctional officers and employees are responsible for the custody, care, and reform of thousands of offenders every year as well as the maintenance of safe and secure facilities. They work in very demanding and stressful conditions, face many challenges, and put their lives at risk every day.
