Hays County Sheriff Capt. Graduates From FBI National Academy

Sheriff Gary Cutler and Hays County Commissioner Precinct 4 Ray Whisenant are proud to announce the graduation of Captain Mark Cumberland from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Over 240 law enforcement officers from all over the world graduated in Class 264 from this prestigious training academy on Friday, June 10, 2016.

Captain Cumberland oversees the Law Enforcement Bureau and began his career with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a correctional officer. Cumberland has been involved in every aspect of the office including patrol, SWAT, and narcotics. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and is a graduate of Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. Cumberland is a Gulf War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp First Force Recon Company.

The FBI National Academy is a professional development course for leaders and managers of state, local, county, tribal, military, federal and international law enforcement agencies. The course improves administration in law enforcement agencies to raise standards and knowledge worldwide. Its mission is “to support, promote, and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world.”
