New public food distribution site in San Marcos

The Hays County Food Bank has announced a brand new drive-thru public food distribution in San Marcos. Lower income households and those facing a food emergency are invited to receive a variety of fresh produce, meat, shelf-stable foods, and baked goods upon availability. 

The new food distribution site is located at the San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The Hays County Food Bank asks clients to enter at Monterrey Oaks and SH-123.

This distribution, like all current Hays County Food Bank distributions, will be drive-thru. Clients are asked to clean out their trunk or truck beds before arriving to make it easy for the food bank team to easily and quickly load up groceries.

Households must meet one of the following to receive services:

• Have a household income at or below the 185% of the Federal Poverty Level,

• Participate in a qualifying federal assistance program (ex: SNAP, Social Security, Medicaid) or

• Have a temporary food emergency due to loss of income, disaster, etc.

Proxy

If a household is unable to attend a distribution, they may assign a proxy to pick up on their behalf. The proxy must be listed before picking up food and they will have to show their photo ID for verification purposes. Client just needs to call the food bank ahead of time to assign a proxy if one is not already listed.

New Clients

If a household has never received food assistance from Hays County Food Bank before, they can either call ahead to answer a few self-reporting questions or they may show up and answer at the distribution. No proof of ID, income, or residency is needed from the client.
