Texas State Athlete Earns First Team All-American Honors for Second Straight Year

“It was a great experience for our student-athletes,” said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jody Stewart. “The exciting part is that all three student-athletes return and can use this experience for their next trip to Eugene.”

EUGENE, Ore. – For the second straight year, Texas State junior high jump Chelsie Decoud earned First Team All-American honors at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships at Historic Hayward Field.

Fellow Bobcats T’Mond Johnson and Mylana Hearn both garnered honorable mention All-American honors during the meet as well.

“It was a great experience for our student-athletes,” said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jody Stewart. “For Chelsie to return to the NCAA Championships and receive her second First Team All-American honor was an outstanding accomplishment. The exciting part is that all three student-athletes return and can use this experience for their next trip to Eugene.”

Decoud passed on the first height and cleared the second height of 1.78m (5-10). She followed by also jumping over the bar at 1.82m (5-11.5) on her first attempt. Despite three strong attempts, the junior was unable to clear the bar set to 1.85m (6-0.75) that would have tied her school record.

Overall, Decoud finished in a four-way tie for sixth place to improve on her seventh place finish from 2016.

Hearn and Johnson both finished in 21st place in the women’s triple jump and men’s shot put, respectively. It was the second All-American honor for Hearn, who made the second team last year, while Johnson picked up his first career All-American distinction.
