Goodnight Middle School Celebrates Black History Month
Goodnight Middle School celebrated Black History Month on Friday, February 24, with several special events in the large gymnasium.
The program was called “Rise Up,” and began with a stirring duet of the song Rise Up sung by choir teacher Aimee Adams and Riley Deleon.
The Black History art winners were recognized for their contributions to posters, tee shirts, and the program: Sean Vargas, Alicia Aragon, and Julianna Gonzales. The award-winning poetry of students Heaven Gonzalez and Derek Solis was also read aloud.
Other musical performances included: “Go Tell It on the Mountain” by the GNMS 8th grade band ensemble, songs by the Midnight Blues Quartet, and songs performed by the GNMS Mixed Choir. Dance numbers were performed by the GNMS Dancing Stars and Officers, and the Goodnight Rattler Steppers.
The program was coordinated by Stephanie Pierson and Arlene Hooper, and Darius Davis was the guest speaker. Students Kayla Presley, Mia Wilson, Layla Diaz, and Kalea Gumbs provided narration on key figures in history.
