Fifth Victim Of Deadly Apartment Fire Identified

Officials responded around 4:27 AM to a 911 call on Friday, July 20 to find many residents self-evacuating first and second floor apartments of buildings 500 and 300. As of 6:30 PM last night, the fire had been contained.


The fifth and final victim of the deadly fire at Iconic Village and Vintage Pads apartments has been identified by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in coordination with Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno.

Missing: Belinda MoatsBelinda Moats of Big Wells (born Aug. 24, 1996) has been positively identified through DNA analysis. 

The four victims previously identified are:

  • Haley Michele Frizzell of San Angelo (born July 10, 1999)
  • David Ortiz of Pasadena (born May 11, 1997)
  • Dru Estes of San Antonio (born July 5, 1998)
  • James Miranda of Mount Pleasant (born Dec. 9, 1994)

All five were previously listed as missing, and all but James Miranda were or had formerly been Texas State University Students.  The five victims were found in building 500 at Iconic Village apartments. 

Anyone with information pertaining to the fire or the investigation is asked to call the San Marcos Fire Marshal’s office at 512.805.2600.
