HCWC Taking Education To The Digital Age

HCWC was recently awarded a grant from the Texas Pioneer Foundation in order to  expand our educational outreach into the next level by funding a unique position on our education team. Newly hired Digital Educator, Karen Munoz, a recent Texas State Public Relations graduate brings a new perspective into a traditional education based program at HCWC. “The funding is

currently being used to increase our educational efforts by developing programming online, increasing our social media education and creating a new education-focused website www.stopthehurt.org<http://www.stopthehurt.org> .

Our goal is to reach more people who are increasingly engaged online in the areas we focus on such as healthy relationships, parenting support and to foster self-compassion which we believe will reduce violence in our community. We especially want to connect more with youth who we know are in need of education and awareness and look to digital resources for this information”, says Director of Community Partnerships, Melissa Rodriguez.

Texas Pioneer Foundation Executive Director, Fred Markham added “we are excited in the possibilities of looking toward the future in incorporating education programs outside of the traditional classroom setting. The Texas Pioneer Foundation has long focused their efforts in creating opportunities in education throughout the community.” Last year, HCWC provided 575 face to face presentations to 8,566 people in Hays and Caldwell County. Some important content we share is through social media and as one Facebook follower stated after reading a post regarding PTSD in family violence victims, “some people do not have external bruises, only internal ones. It helps to understand the dynamics behind the situation so that we can all help those                                                            harmed move forward in recovery.”

The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has a 38-year history of serving women, men and children in Hays and Caldwell Counties who are victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
