Friday, January 2—The San Marcos Public Library offers the best in children’s stories, songs, and fantastic fun! Ages 0 to 2 are invited to attend at 10:00 a.m. and ages 3 to 6 at 11:00 a.m.
Open Registration for Free Language Course
Friday, January 2—Drop by the San Marcos Public Library Information Desk on January 2 to register for a free Spanish or French language course when you purchase the required textbook. Call 512.393.8200 for complete class schedule.
Edwards Aquifer Authority Mobile Cave Display
Tuesday, January 6 to Sunday, January 25—The San Marcos Public Library will host the Edwards Aquifer Authority’s mobile cave display during regular business hours January 6 thru January 25. As you explore the cave, you are transported into a dim environment complete with a motion-triggered audio presentation about the Edwards Aquifer. See images of the regions along the aquifer’s boundaries and learn about the threatened and endangered plant and animal species that live there. Call 512.393.8200 for more information.

Registration for Free GED Test Preparation: Part One
Tuesday, January 13—Register for free GED test preparation courses with Community Action, Inc. at the San Marcos Public Library at 1:00 or 6:00 p.m. Registrants must return for part two on Thursday, January 15 at 1:00 or 6:00 p.m.

On Your Feet and Having Fun: A Forum to Prevent Falls
Wednesday & Thursday, January 14 to 15—Camille Phillips offers a 4-week forum and exercise group, which meets twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. from January 14 to February 5 at the San Marcos Public Library. The forum provides a setting to learn strategies and simple exercises that will help prevent falls. Creation Station: “I Have A Dream”
Saturday & Sunday, January 17 to 18—In remembrance of Martin Luther King, kids will make a paper craft to celebrate their dreams! Drop into the children’s area at the San Marcos Public Library on January 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and January 18 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. to create a work of art. Kids under 5 will need adult help.
Great Books Discussion Group:
Marion and the Magician by Thomas Mann
Monday, January 26—The Great Books Discussion Group meets at the San Marcos Public Library on third Mondays each month at 7:00 p.m. to discuss selected literary works. In February, the group will discuss Selected Poems by Emily Dickinson.

Thursday, January 22—The San Marcos Public Library is pleased to host Gypsy Moon for a live musical performance at 7:00 p.m. The quartet features guitarists Ray and Linda Sriro with Grant Mazak and Mollie Fischer. Full of rhythm and romance, this music will soothe your soul and excite your senses.

Free Yoga
Friday, January 23—Certified Sivananda Yoga instructor Tina Baumgartner offers a free yoga class for all skill levels at the San Marcos Public Library from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wear loose clothing and bring a towel or yoga mat to sit on.
Bluebonnet Award Voting Party
Saturday, January 24—Kids in 3rd thru 6th grades are invited to cast their votes for their favorite Bluebonnet Books of 2014 at the San Marcos Public Library from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In addition to voting, there will be bluebonnet-inspired fun. Stop by the Information Desk or call 512.393.8200 in advance to register your reader as an official voter.

STREAMFEST
Saturday, January 31—STREAM fest is a celebration of artistic and creative pursuits within Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Kids of all ages are invited to the San Marcos Activity Center and the San Marcos Public Library from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a day of fun activities, performances, and crafts sponsored by the MAKE Lab, City of San Marcos, Walkers’ Gallery, San Marcos Area Arts Council and San Marcos Arts Commission.
Free Tax Aid
Monday, February 2—AARP volunteers will assist persons with disabilities as well as low-income and elderly taxpayers file their income tax returns at the San Marcos Public Library from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Taxpayers using this free, walk-in service should bring with them a copy of last year’s income tax return, a social security card for themselves and dependents, a photo ID, and any other tax-related information. Those who prefer to file electronically should bring with them a check or a letter from their bank including bank routing and account numbers. Service is guaranteed to the first 50 people who arrive and sign in by 5:30 p.m.

How to Look at and Understand Great Art: II
Thursday, February 5—The Texas State Retired Faculty and Staff Association along with the San Marcos Public Library present a Life Long Learning course in art appreciation for adults 50 and over at the San Marcos Public Library on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on February 5 thru March 12. Registration information will be available mid-January at www.txstate.edu/rfsa.
Texas Authors and Literature: 1542 to present
Thursday, February 5—The Texas State Retired Faculty and Staff Association along with the San Marcos Public Library present a Life Long Learning course in Texas literature for adults 50 and over at the San Marcos Public Library on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on February 12 thru March 29. Registration information will be available mid-January at www.txstate.edu/rfsa.
