Hays County Commissioners Honor Long-Time Community Volunteer

“Over the course of 40 years she tirelessly advocated for abused and neglected children in Hays County even and especially when that meant representing their interests in the halls of government…”

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX
– The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed May 1 as Anna Ve Stevens Farr Day to honor the late educator and community volunteer for her dedication to protecting children and the environment. She passed away in January 2018.

The proclamation reads in part, “Over the course of 40 years she tirelessly advocated for abused and neglected children in Hays County even and especially when that meant representing their interests in the halls of government. Anna touched the lives of thousands of children and families through this loving and persistent service.”

Mrs. Farr was a member of the team that founded the Hays County Child Protective Board’s Heroes in Education Award which is presented annually to educators who serve children in need, especially abused and neglected children. In 2017 the Board renamed it the Anna Ve Farr Heroes in Education Award. She was also the recipient of the San Marcos Woman of the Year Award and received a regional Volunteer of the Year Award, among other honors.

“Serving on any board for 40 years is tough, and the Child Protective Board is one of the most heart-wrenching boards to serve on,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones said. “We appreciate all she did for our community.”

“Mrs. Farr was one of the first persons I talked to when I came to work at Hays County, and we had many conversations about the needs in the community,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Lon Shell said. “It was a sad day when we learned she passed. We miss her.”

“This is a special job that takes a special kind of person and this honor well-deserved,” Precinct 4 Commission Ray Whisenant said. “I give my personal thanks to the people who take the time to give their hearts and souls to this work.”

“I think what I miss most of all is her smile,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe said. “Anna Farr had a wonderful smile.”
