Art Teachers Selected For Crockett Elementary Mural
The artists have collaborated with and coordinated student workers in several large-scale community projects, including the Unity mosaic on the riverbank near City Park, the SMHS Performing Arts Center double staircase, and a student-designed, hand-painted grand piano shell displayed at the Dahlia Woods Gallery.
Two San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District art teachers have been selected to paint a mural at Crockett Elementary School as part of the San Marcos Mural Arts Program.
Jessica Botello and Amy Hall were awarded the project by the Mural Art Committee and Crockett Elementary School Officials.
The mixed-media design will incorporate images of native plants and animals into letters forming the word, “CROCKETT” on the side of the school. Stained-glass will be incorporated in the design in the form of mosaic butterflies.
Botello and Hall will paint the mural this summer with help from local youth. Both artists live in the neighborhood by Crockett Elementary, and Botello’s children attended the school.

The goals of this project are to beautify the school with a child-inspired theme and to deter future graffiti. The artist stipend for the mural is $3,700. Materials for the project will be provided by the City of San Marcos.
