Local Church Gets Second Truckload Of Supplies And Coordinates A National Repair & Rebuild Volunteer Group

Late Saturday night a second truckload of supplies from the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort arrived to support the cleanup efforts for San Marcos, Wimberley and the surrounding areas. The University Church of Christ has opened a disaster relief center at the old Hays County Civic Center that will be open Monday thru Saturday, daily from 10 am – 6pm.

UNIVCOC has also been contacted by Churches of Christ DRT and have helped coordinate a disaster relief team from Florida. This volunteer group offers to help with repairs and rebuilding. They are setting up camp at the Buda/Kyle Church of Christ so they can be central to Wimberley and San Marcos.

This Florida group of volunteers will start their work Monday morning and want to specifically help the people that did NOT have flood insurance or who were “under insured.”  “They clean, repair & rebuild. They have tools and can also buy supplies when needed. People should contact Larry Carrell directly at (214) 676-1790 or call our disaster number at 512- 545-7051,” said Carla Sisk, a member of University Church of Christ.

The Churches of Christ DRT are also assessing the needs for their mobile kitchen to serve meals to the community. For more information about this group of volunteers, please visit their website at, http://www.churchesofchristdrt.org/.

The semi-tractor load of supplies that arrived on Saturday night include; cleaning supplies, buckets, shovels, wheel barrows, water, food boxes, baby supply boxes, diapers, blankets, sheets, pillows, men and women’s underwear and socks and various other items.

They have finished sorting and will reopen Monday June 1, 2015 at 10am. Currently they are planning to send about half of the supplies to Blanco and Wimberley. “We still have tons of food boxes,” said Sisk.

The Wimberley Church of Christ also has some of these same supplies for distribution at their location, 15500 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, TX 78676. Please contact them for distribution times and information at (512) 847-9357.

UNIVCOFC will be sending half of these supplies to Blanco to help in their relief efforts. Contact the Blanco Church of Christ distribution information, and are located at 102 Main St, Blanco, TX 78606 Phone: (830) 833-4884.

Items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to residents from the flooded areas. County guidelines require that they collect address and contact information.

Additional truckloads of supplies will come later in June/July to continue the relief efforts as needed, and will include items such as mattresses, refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers and some furniture.
