Rattlers Advance To State Competition In German

On the weekend of February 4, 2017, six San Marcos High School students competed for the first time in school history in the regional German language and culture competition held at the University of Texas-San Antonio. 

According to their SMHS German teacher Mindy Foster, student Ben Murdoch competed in an impressive six individual events and earned 1st place in four of them:  Directed Dialogue, Grammar, Listening Comprehension, and Spelling. 

Murdoch also placed 3rd in Reading Comprehension and is advancing to the State competition in all five events.

Additionally, Sarah Storch, John Simmang, Nicholas Crawford, Nina Luna, and Rebekah Swann competed as a team in the varsity level arts, grammar, geography, history and politics trivia contest.  They placed 4th and will also be advancing to the State competition. 

All six students will be competing at the Texas State German contest February 25th at Texas State University.  Foster said that she is proud of their achievements and is looking forward to the upcoming competitive state level competition.
