Local Resident Turns 30 And Celebrates By Helping The Less Fortunate

In honor of her birthday, a local resident’s friends have teamed up to throw a surprise birthday party that combines the two things she loves the most:

Trivia & Giving Back To Her Community

Kelley Cato has prepared free lunches for Texas State students with the United Campus Ministry, sold Valentine’s Card with Ms. Susie, the Viking Goddess, to benefit the hungry, volunteered at UM Army and used her 29th birthday to raise funds for Hays County Food Bank through Facebook.

According to friends, Cato enjoys giving back, especially to those who don’t always know where their next meal is coming from.

“I’m honestly not sure if it’s a choice [helping others] that Kelley even takes a second to think about, as much as it is an innate value she carries with her,” Amy Woods, a friend of Cato’s, said. “Any opportunity to volunteer, raise money, or do good for her community, Kelley wants to be a part of and invites her friends to join.”

Woods, Cato and all their friends hope everyone can help her celebrate her birthday and give back to the community she loves.

Players can pay $5 a person to participate in the fundraising event and be eligible for a cash prize. The winning team will receive $5 per team.

The more teams, the more potential money for the grand prize, and the more money raised to do good. Teams can consist of up to 6 players.

Quiz for a Cause is an event through Geeks Who Drink that will benefit a local charity. The usual free event will accept money to play and donations on this special night. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Quiz for a Cause for Hays County Food Bank will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, at Nate’s, 306 S. Main Street, Buda, Tx, from 8 PM to 10 PM.

  1. “… enjoys giving back, especially to those who don’t always know where their next meal is coming from.” ???????

The state provides to any “homeless” person $194. monthly, on a pre-paid credit card, AKA “Food Stamps.” Easily obtained.

Maybe “Ms. Wokeness” should wake-up to what I know (as a homeless person).

The bums invoke the “mercy” of every messianic pocketbook for purposes of tobacco, alcohol and drugs.

Moral: Nothing new under the sun, save your own ignorance.

    1. Wow. You must be fun at parties – Happy you did not attend this one.

Must be fun bashing people that are trying to do good, be positive, and give back most of their waking day.

Why are you so angry? Release it on someone/something that actually needs a call-out.

      1. Ike,

Glad to hear that you’re “happy” and “positive”, and how you’re the better judge of ” someone/something that actually needs a call-out.” Savin’ it for party time, huh?

Morning after, we’re sure you’ll be “giving back” to the same porcelain bowl, to which–the story goes–that if you hold your ear close enough, you can hear the universe howl in derision.

    2. Hey there. You’ve sure got some strong feelings. I was part of the event and I think the article, while exciting (as Kelly is a wonderful person to be reconized) feels oddly disconnected from the reality of the event. News and media are funny like that, huh? For starters, that’s a stock photo of several conventionally attractive people, and it left out the best part of the whole thing. The party was a surprise! Several people who love Kelly thought to have a fundraiser in her name instead of shopping for stuff. I think that’s really cool. Instead of spilling vitrol on the internet, we could meet for lunch sometime. I’d like to hear what you think about life instead of assuming your character by what’s written here. I assume you are local, as this is a small publication. Here is some information about food insecurity, straight from Hays Country food bank. They even include information about things close to home. http://haysfoodbank.org/hunger-facts.aspx God Bless, Cat

      1. Naw, I don’t agree the story was an “oddly disconnected” study of those party goers and their ulterior self-aggrandizing motives on behalf of others less fortunate. My…do we not feel pain…are we not sentient compassionate human? Let us publish our nobility as but humble servants. The venal “perky” opinion, if you read the fine print of the first post, was written by a homeless person who obviously doesn’t buy into the conventional wisdom at hand. “Oddly disconnected” would better describe ANY person who believes that food changes a person. Food only perpetuates the core values of a person, which in the case of most “homeless people”, is not food, but rather monetary gain obtained by role-playing. Oh save me, you noble sentient compassionate human beings…!

In short, the cranky homeless poster may have been saying that that in the end, the person we end up fooling is most often ourselves.

  2. :) Thank you!

You should really apply to be a writer for the (hopefully) next Bloodborne game. You would be a great fit.

Farewell. May you find your worth in the waking world.
