SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State men’s basketball head coach Danny Kaspar announced the addition of Maxwell Starwood to the program on Monday. He is the seventh new addition for the Bobcats for next season.

“Maxwell is a three-star recruit that we are very fortunate to get this late in the recruiting process. He is a very versatile player that can shoot, rebound, and pass the basketball,” said Kaspar. “He originally signed with Tulane, but with the coaching changing he opted out. Through assistant coach Terrence Johnson we were able to make inroads in getting him to come to Texas State.”

Starwood is rated a three-star recruit by ESPN and arrives via Reno International Prep in Reno, Nevada. This past season the 6-foot-8, 220 pound forward averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game.

Before heading to prep school, Starwood graduated from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He helped lead the Cubs to back-to-back Louisiana Class 3A state championships in 2014 and 2015 while compiling a 63-10 record. Starwood averaged nine points and seven rebounds per contest as a senior and led the team in blocks. His junior season saw him be named to the LHSAA All-Tournament team and was an all-district selection.

Joining Starwood in this year’s signing class are fellow freshman Marlin Davis, Nijal Pearson and Nedeljko Prijovic and junior college transfers Tyler Blount, Deris Duncan and Immanuel King.

“I am very happy with his signing and it gives us our best freshman recruiting class since I started here in the spring of 2013,” Kaspar said.
