Two District Leaders Assume New Roles

San Marcos CISD Superintendent Mark E. Eads has announced two changes that will help move San Marcos CISD closer to achieving its goals.

 

Two district leaders will serve in new capacities as of Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

 

Dr. Monica Valadez (top left) takes on the role of Community Liaison. Her responsibilities include serving as the lead parent and community liaison, communicating needs and resources to families and other stakeholders, coordinating community outreach events, working with students and families who find themselves in at-risk situations, and assisting with district attendance reports as the District Truancy Officer – a position that was vacated due to a retirement in December 2015. This position is critical to the sustained communications and engagement of parents and community in all District matters. The attendance position has been expanded to include the community outreach responsibilities. Dr. Valadez has been with the District for 2.5 years, and in education for 12 years. She has served as assistant principal at De Zavala Elementary since August 2013, after earning her doctorate from Texas State University in 2012.

 

Cynthia Pavia (top right) brings a wealth of talent and knowledge as she assumes the assistant principal position at De Zavala Elementary. She has 34 years of experience as an educator, and she has been with the District for 29 years. Pavia has served as a bilingual teacher, assistant principal, principal, and most recently as the Bilingual Coordinator for the Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability Department since 2010, where she was the liaison with all bilingual and migrant families. Pavia also served as a resource for the District’s Parent Liaisons at each campus. She earned her Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University).

 

Superintendent Eads said the new roles will maximize on the staffs’ strengths and should make a positive impact on behalf of the district’s students.

 

Eads said, “We’re excited about the possibilities these changes will bring to our community, as we welcome Dr. Valadez and Mrs. Pavia to their new areas of leadership. Both are assets to our district.”
