Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and safety Eric Reid have settled with the NFL in their joint collusion against the league and will no longer take further action.

The agreement comes on the doorstep of the final hearing in the Kaepernick case; the former quarterback alleged the league conspired against him after he began kneeling during the national anthem during football games in 2016.

Some fellow NFL players began to join in protest against racial injustice and police brutality, creating social media frenzy between celebrities and corporations who supported or were against Kaepernick’s message. The actions created tension between President Donald Trump that created an instituted rule that banned protests during the national anthem.

According to Yahoo Sports, that rule has since been shelved by the NFL and appears to have ended.

“For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL,” the statement said. “As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party.”

Although sources declined to offer specifics for the decision, Kaepernick and Reid would only settle if a financial agreement was granted between the league and the players.

The NFL and Kaepernick’s attorneys released a statement Friday saying the matter had been resolved confidentially. As part of that confidentiality, it is believed both sides signed a non-disclosure agreement agreeing not to speak publicly about details of the case or settlement.
