San Marcos Man Charged With Murder After Altercation Leads To Victim’s Death
Witnesses told officers of a disturbance, and that the offender was no longer in the area.
A San Marcos man has been charged with murder after another man died of injuries he suffered in an altercation last week.
On Aug. 24 at approximately 12:13 a.m., SMPD Officers were dispatched to the Verandah Apartments, 1805 N IH-35 for a reported assault.
When officers arrived they discovered the victim, Bryan Longoria (DOB 10/10/1990) of San Marcos, lying on his back in the parking lot with visible injuries to his head. Officers immediately began CPR until EMS took over and transported Longoria to Central Texas Medical Center.
Witnesses told officers of a disturbance, and that the offender was no longer in the area. Through the investigation, police identified Joe Anthony Robert Sandoval (DOB 11/05/1988) of San Marcos as a suspect. Police detained him at 10 a.m. that day and questioned him.
The victim, Longoria, was still alive and had been transferred to a South Austin Hospital by the time Sandoval was questioned. An arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault causing Serious Bodily Injury was obtained for Sandoval, and he was subsequently transported to the Hays County Law Enforcement Center for booking.
Longoria succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25. The charge against Sandoval was upgraded to Murder once SMPD learned that Longoria had died.
San Marcos Police are continuing their investigation.
