UPDATED: Buda Issues Boil Water Notice For Everyone East Of Onion Creek

THURSDAY UPDATE: Due to days of power outages, sub-freezing temps and an interruption in service from GBRA we are experiencing low pressure in our water system.  

The city crews are working to restore system pressure east of Onion Creek at this time. The boil water notice is likely to extend into early next week. So even when the water pressure improves, residents will still need to boil their water until the notice is lifted. 

Here is a map of the area under the boil water notice. 

Due to rolling power outages within the City’s water system, this has caused water distribution pressures to fall below 20 psi for East of Onion Creek, including neighborhoods of Old Town/Downtown Buda, Sequoyah, Bonita Vista, Bradfield Village, Ashford Park, and commercial area along I-35.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Buda public water system to notify effected customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc).

Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

The City of Buda has been actively working with Guadalupe Blanco River Authority to restore our surface water supply and also with Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC), the electric service provider for the area to get an estimated timeline on when electric service will be restored.

Once system pressure has been restored and drinking water test results deem our water safe for consumption, the City will issue a cancelation of the boil water notice
